Carles Gil is enjoying his loan spell away from Aston Villa and he played a big part in Deportivo’s astonishing win over Barcelona on Sunday.
The 24-year-old played 62 minutes for Pepe Mel’s side as they moved away from the La Liga relegation zone.
Joselu put Deportivo ahead in the 40th minute before Luis Suarez equalised just after half time.
Barca have never lost a game in which the former Liverpool man has scored, however records were there to be broken for Gil and his teammates as Alex Berganitos scored a 74th minute winner.
The Catalan side boasted the likes of Lionel Messi, Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Gerard Pique in their starting line-up and even introduced Andres Iniesta and Ivan Rakitic off the bench while the scores were level.
However La Coruna managed to put a severe dent in their title hopes with Gil playing a starring role.
After struggling to make an impact at Villa Park, Gil held a higher pass completion ratio than that of Messi according to WhoScored with 85% of his passes finding his teammates.
The Argentina superstar failed to complete more dribbles than Gil, who made more than both Suarez and Arda Turan.
The Villa loanee has struggled for game time in Spain this season though due to several injury problems.
However in 15 appearances in all competition, Gil has provided four assists for his teammates.
Deportivo are now in 15th place and eight points clear of the drop zone thanks to the win.
