Crystal Palace are plotting a January loan move for Tottenham defender Ben Davies, according to a report.
The Guardian claim that 23-year-old left-back Davies could be allowed leave White Hart Lane if Spurs can strike a deal for Fulham teenager Ryan Sessegnon.
Wales international Davies has returned to full fitness after overcoming an ankle injury, but is unlikely to be given a first-team chance in the near future.
Davies is currently acting as Danny Rose’s left-back understudy, and has made just three Premier League starts as Mauricio Pochettino’s second choice this season.
Alan Pardew’s Palace are desperate to bring in a left-sided defender as Pape Souare continues to recover from a broken leg that he suffered in a car crash earlier this season.
With Martin Kelly currently operating out of position on the left side of defence, Pardew has identified Davies as the perfect replacement while Senegal international Souare recovers.
Davies is now in his third season with Spurs, after moving to north London in 2014 from Premier League strugglers Swansea for around £10million.
Just 35 top-flight appearances has seen Davies struggle to break into the Spurs first team ahead of Rose, and could now be allowed to leave to gain regular playing time.
Football Insider verdict:
Rumoured to be interesting Chelsea earlier in the season, Davies would add quality to most Premier League sides and is unlucky that one of the league’s best left-backs currently plays for Spurs in Rose. Moving to Palace would benefit both Davies and Palace, with Spurs’ number 33 desperate for game time and Palace looking to add experienced top-flight quality to their side. However, Spurs should look to hold on to their defender, as Rose is known for his injury problems. The former Leeds trainee has already suffered a long-term hamstring injury this season, which kept him out for seven league and cup games and cover must be in place before allowing Davies to travel across London.
