‘Looks like he has been playing there for years’ – Jenas raves about ‘huge’ Tottenham player

By Amir Mir

Jermaine Jenas has raved about Tottenham ace Victor Wanyama for his “huge” performances for his club this season.

The 25-year-old made a switch from Spurs’ Premier League rivals, Southampton last summer, where he previously worked under manager Mauricio Pochettinio.

He was on target for his side as they beat Manchester United 2-1 in their final match at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon.

Jenas believes Wanyama’s displays this term mirror that of someone who has been playing at the club for “years”.

Speaking on Match of the Day 2, which aired on Sunday evening, Jenas explained why he thinks so highly of the midfielder.

“I would say himself and N’Golo Kante have been the two best buys this summer in terms of value for money,” Jenas told Match of the Day 2.

“The questions that are always asked about Spurs, where do you go now? How do you improve this side? Well, last year they highlighted that in midfield they needed to go and improve.

“They brought Victor Wanyama, a player Pochettino had worked with before and I think it has helped him settle in so quickly.

“In his first year, he looks like he has been playing there years. He has been a dominant force in that midfield and I think in their biggest games, especially at White Hart Lane, he’s been huge in those games. He is the reason why they have finished the season so strong.”

Wanyama has been a key member of Pochettino’s team this season, helping the north London club secure a second consecutive Champions League place.

One of his standout performances this term came against Premier League champions, Chelsea in January.

The Kenyan international man marked Eden Hazard out of the game as Spurs went on to end their London rivals 13-match winning run on home soil.

Over the course of the season, Wanyama has played 45 matches in all competitions for his team, including starting five consecutive Champions League encounters.

Added to that, the powerful midfielder has represented his team on 34 occasions in the Premier League, where he has scored three goals and helped his team boast the best defensive record in the top tier.
