Lucas Bergvall sends message to Tottenham fans after confirmed news

Lucas Bergvall’s performances for Tottenham Hotspur have been one of few bright spots in North London this season.

Tottenham approach the culmination of a campaign to forget on the domestic front, and could still finish as low as 17th in the Premier League table if their current run of form continues under Ange Postecoglou.

The under-fire Australian still has the Europa League as a potential source of silverware – and Champions League qualification – before season’s end, but Postecoglou could be shown the door even if he wins it.

Sunday’s 5-1 loss at Anfield not only saw Liverpool wrap up the title with four games to spare, but it was also a third straight league loss for Spurs, who have won just once in their last eight domestic matches.

Tottenham tie Lucas Bergvall down to new long-term deal

Postecoglou’s handling of Archie Gray against Liverpool has been slammed by Spurs fans, and while the former Leeds man’s versatility has seen him thrown in at the deep end, other youngsters have shone.

That certainly applies to Bergvall, who has become a regular fixture in Tottenham’s midfield and started 24 of his 45 appearances across all competitions, scoring his first goal against Liverpool in the EFL Cup.

The 19-year-old may have only penned a five-year contract to arrive in North London last summer, but now Bergvall has extended his stay at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium further with a new deal until 2031.

Posting on his Instagram story (29 April) after his new contract was announced, Bergvall had a three-word message for the Tottenham faithful, and said: “Here to stay”.

Bergvall, Gray and co the key to Tottenham future

While Postecoglou’s cards look marked in North London, players like Bergvall and Gray could benefit from the influence of a new manager at Tottenham, particularly one who still champions young players.

Former Spurs and England keeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider last month that the uncertainty over Postecoglou has disrupted Tottenham’s recruitment plans, and thus Bergvall’s new contract will end speculation over his own future.

The teenage Sweden international’s reputation is only set to rise in the next years, and with Gray and Bergvall at the heart of their midfield, whoever succeeds Postecoglou has a recipe for success already in place.
