Lucas Bergvall sends message to Tottenham fans after controversial twist
Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall has taken to social media to express his joy after scoring his first goal for the club in controversial circumstances in their 1-0 League Cup win over Liverpool on Wednesday (January 8).
The 18-year-old scored the eventual winner in the 86th minute, just moments after a rash challenge on Liverpool defender Konstantinos Tsimikas that could have seen him receive a second yellow card.
Liverpool were given the advantage by Stuart Attwell after Bergvall’s tackle on Tsimikas but their counter-attack didn’t amount to anything and was eventually collected by new goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky.
The next phase of play saw Dominic Solanke beat Ibrahima Konate to the ball, allowing the striker to lay Bergvall off, scoring the winner a minute after his controversial challenge.
Spurs’ win over Liverpool marks their first in four games across all competitions, giving them a major advantage going into the second leg on February 6th.
Lucas Bergvall “really happy” as Tottenham gain the upper hand over Liverpool
The young midfielder has had plenty of chances since joining in the summer, starting eight of his 22 games across all competitions, scoring one goal, and providing two assists in his 703 minutes of action.
Bergvall took to Instagram after the win, saying: “Thank you so much for the unbelievable support tonight! Really happy to score my first goal, see you on Sunday!”

Tottenham have seven games between now and the second leg, starting with an FA Cup with non-league Tamworth on Sunday (January 12).
Ange Postecoglu will then turn his attention to the Premier League, with a North London Debry against arch-rivals Arsenal coming up.
