Lucas Bergvall sends Tottenham promise after Keith Hackett’s ‘cheating’ claim

Lucas Bergvall was left devastated as he shared his thoughts with Tottenham fans following their defeat to Fulham.

Tottenham suffered a disappointing 2-0 loss at Craven Cottage on 16 March, with Rodrigo Muniz and Ryan Sessegnon finding the net to seal Fulham’s victory.

The defeat saw Spurs slump to 14th place in the Premier League, having already lost 15 games this season—matching their joint-highest tally in a single Premier League campaign.

However, Ange Postecoglou’s side may feel hard done by, as former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett believes Tottenham should have been awarded a penalty against Fulham.

Bergvall was at the centre of the incident but went down “theatrically” according to Hackett, which may have led officials to believe he was “cheating.”

After the match, Dominic Solanke sent a message to Tottenham fans, and Bergvall quickly followed, addressing the supporters in the wake of the defeat.

Lucas Bergvall’s mistakes could cost on Ange Postecoglou

The 19-year-old shared a message on his Instagram story, writing: “We know that this is not good enough. We will come back stronger after the break. Thank you for your support as always.”

Bergvall has been a key figure this season since arriving last summer, benefiting from increased first-team opportunities—largely due to Tottenham’s ongoing injury crisis, which has sidelined Rodrigo Bentancur.

However, Bergvall endured a difficult outing against AZ Alkmaar, in the second leg of Tottenham’s Europa League clash, where his costly mistake gifted the away side a goal and put the tie at risk.

That wasn’t his only error in the fixture, as Bergvall also scored an own goal in the first leg—the only goal of the match—handing AZ an advantage early on.

Mistakes are inevitable for a young player, especially given the pressure surrounding the club. However, if they continue to prove costly, they will only add to the mounting scrutiny on Postecoglou.

Postecoglou was labelled a “disgrace” by Tottenham fans following an incident where he was seen arguing with a supporter after the latest defeat.

Football Insider revealed Postecoglou boss is facing mounting sack pressure, with the club’s hierarchy in an increasingly uncomfortable position as results continue to falter.

Frustrations among the fanbase are understandable, and with the Europa League now Tottenham’s only realistic chance at silverware this season, failure to win the competition could further intensify the uncertainty surrounding the coach’s future.
