Lucas Moura may have played final Tottenham game after £12.5m news – pundit

Lucas Moura may have played his final game for Tottenham, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker suggested Djed Spence’s arrival may spell the end for Moura but Spurs must be careful as they have a lot of football to play in 2022-23.

The 29-year-old’s opportunities further forward have been limited by the arrival of Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison in the last six months.

As quoted by the Daily Mail last week (16 July), Antonio Conte revealed he wanted to turn Moura into a wing-back in a similar way he did with Victor Moses and Ivan Perisic.

Just days later (19 July), Spurs have signed Spence from Middlesbrough on a permanent deal worth a reported initial £12.5million.

Conte now has Spence, Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal who all capable of playing as a right wing-back while Sergio Reguilon, Ivan Perisic and Ryan Sessegnon can do the job on the left.

Asked whether that left room for Moura, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I don’t think so no.

“Djed Spence is young, he’s athletic. He’s going to be a player that can play a lot of football.

“Spurs also have to look at it and be careful because they’ve got a lot of competitions as well with the Champions League as well. They want to be trying to finish in the top two or top three now as well.

“I’m sure Lucas Moura can be a squad player who can come in and fill in for the team.”

Moura has played 201 games across all competitions for Tottenham but only has two years left on his current contract.

The Brazil international started 17 games across all competitions under Conte in 2021-22.
