Luis Diaz reacts to Alexis Mac Allister’s message after Liverpool defeat
Alexis Mac Allister and Luis Diaz provided two glimmers of hope for Liverpool in their defeat to Fulham on Sunday.
Arne Slot’s side missed the chance to go 14 points clear at the top of the Premier League table as they close in on their 20th top-flight title, losing 3-2 at Craven Cottage after an inspired first-half comeback.
Having seen Caoimhin Kelleher survive a very early penalty scare in West London, Mac Allister took matters into his own hands with a 20-yard strike to put Liverpool ahead, arguably against the run of play.
Ryan Sessegnon’s equaliser came directly after an error from makeshift Reds right-back Curtis Jones, and quick-fire strikes from Alex Iwobi and Rodrigo Muniz had soon turned the game on its head for Slot.
Diaz came off the bench midway through the second half to make an instant impact after being teed up by Conor Bradley, but Liverpool were unable to find a way back and suffered their second league defeat.

Mac Allister message sent as Liverpool trip up again
Losing for the first time in 27 league matches is hardly cause for the panic button at Anfield, with Slot’s side still cruising towards the title at a canter and 11 points clear of Arsenal with seven games to play.
Mac Allister’s sublime strike for their opener was one of few high-quality moments the Reds were able to produce in the final third, as Liverpool failed to test Fulham with eight of their 14 overall attempts on goal.

The Argentine was quick to address a disappointed Liverpool fanbase with a post on Instagram after full-time (6 April), promising that the Reds would bounce back quickly in their efforts to wrap up the title.
In the post, which was liked by Diaz as well as the Anfield club, Mac Allister said: “Not the result we wanted, but this journey goes on. Working hard and being positive, let’s stick together.”
Luis Diaz goal could be lifeline for Liverpool career
While Mac Allister’s future and place in the Liverpool side looks assured in the long-term, that’s anything but the case for Diaz at the moment, with the 28-year-old’s consolation goal only his second of 2025.
Former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider last month that Liverpool are already eyeing up a replacement for Diaz, with the Colombian drawing interest from Barcelona.
However, coming off the bench to make the impact he did could be a key factor in ensuring he doesn’t leave Liverpool this summer, regardless of the attacking reinforcements Slot wants to bring in at Anfield.
