Luis Diaz reacts to Liverpool’s message to Darwin Nunez after exit update emerges

Liverpool winger Luis Diaz reacted to a message to his teammate Darwin Nunez from the club amid growing expectations both players could be leaving this summer.

The Uruguayan striker is capable of the extraordinary, but so often fluffs his lines when it comes to doing the ordinary.

And Nunez has been a major source of frustration for Liverpool fans for that reason, as they tore into the 26-year-old last season.

He scored just five times for the Reds last season and he missed a series of clear-cut chances, including an open goal from just a few yards out against Aston Villa.

Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Hugo Ekitike, which would seem to spell the end for the former Benfica man’s time at Anfield.

However, Nunez’s impressive pre-season performance on Sunday, 20 July, may be a cause for pause.

Darwin Nunez bags hat-trick for Liverpool

In a behind-closed-doors friendly against Stoke City, Nunez scored a first-half hat-trick against the Championship side as the reigning Premier League champions ran out as 5-0 winners.

The Uruguayan has now scored four times in two pre-season games, after netting in a 3-1 win over Preston North End on 13 July.

Liverpool shared a video of Nunez in action, captioned: “A first half hat-trick for Darwin Nunez against Stoke City in today’s behind-closed-doors friendly”, and the post was liked by Diaz.

Nunez, Diaz heading for Liverpool exits

Football Insider Verdict

Despite his impressive showing against Stoke, it would still be a surprise to see the Uruguay international lining up for the Reds on the first day of the season.

Mick Brown told Football Insider that Liverpool plan to lower their asking price for Nunez if they are unable to sell him for their original asking price of £70million.

Meanwhile, the striker’s teammate Diaz is facing an uncertain future as Marcus Rashford looks set to secure a move to Barcelona.

The Catalan giants had been keen on the Colombian, but won’t make a move for the winger now they have signed Man United’s outcast.

Bayern Munich may look to take advantage of the situation and return with another offer for Diaz after having a bid turned down earlier in the summer.
