Luiz Dias: Medical underway as £50m signing holds aloft Liverpool shirt for the first time

Luis Diaz has posed for pictures with a Liverpool shirt as he completes the formalities of his £50million late-window transfer.

The Colombia international, 25, has met up with a Liverpool delegation in Argentina, where he is preparing for his country’s fixture on Tuesday.

A Liverpool source has told Football Insider that Diaz is undergoing a medical while also putting the finishing touches to the deal.

He has been pictured holding aloft the club’s iconic shirt in a clear sign the deal is now all but done.

Liverpool are rushing through the paperwork and registration as they look to get their man ahead of Monday’s 11pm deadline.

The Merseysiders have had a £50m bid accepted for Diaz, which is made up of £37.5m up front plus £12.5m of performance-related add-ons.

Once the deal goes through, the winger will then play his first match within hours of becoming a Liverpool player.

Argentina host his Colombia side at 11.30pm UK time on Tuesday.

If all goes to plan, it is expected Diaz will be able to travel to Liverpool towards the end of next week.

Liverpool hijacked Tottenham’s talks with Porto to move into pole position to clinch the deal.

Jurgen Klopp’s plan had been to hold off until the summer to recruit a marquee attacker capable of slotting straight into his starting XI.

But the Merseyside giants were forced into a change of plan by the nature and level of Spurs’ interest, and the realisation that Diaz was set to transfer in this window.

Díaz can play on either flank, but is especially comfortable on the left, and has scored 16 goals and supplied six assists in 28 appearances in all competitions to help Porto establish a six-point lead at the summit of the Portugese league.

His attacking attributes would bolster competition for places alongside Sadio Mane, Mohammed Salah, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino.

In other news, Liverpool have been handed a “huge, huge title boost” by three players.
