Luton Town agree deal to sign Shandon Baptise – sources

Luton Town have agreed a deal to sign Shandon Baptise following his exit from Brentford, sources have told Football Insider.

Baptiste, 26, is a free agent after seeing out his contract in West London at the end of last month and Luton have swooped to secure his signature.

The midfielder will now be free to undergo a medical and put the finishing touches to the deal at Luton’s training ground.

Luton have been in the market for a new midfielder following the departures of Ross Barkley, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Luke Berry this summer.

Baptiste joined Brentford from Oxford United in 2020 and was part of the squad that won promotion to the Premier League in 2021, before establishing themselves in the division.

During his spell at the Gtech Community Stadium, the midfielder featured 78 times, with 55 of those appearances coming in the Premier League.

Last season, he featured just 12 times across all competitions, with only two of his appearances coming from the start.

His spell was marred by a string of injury issues after he underwent knee surgery in September 2020.

Following Luton’s relegation last time out, they have moved to strengthen their squad with experience of winning promotion and playing Premier League football.

The target for Rob Edwards’ side this season is to return to the first division amid plenty of changes to the squad, with Baptiste’s arrival marking their first incoming deal this summer.
