Mads Hermansen bids farewell after Leicester exit to Preston North End confirmed

Mads Hermansen has sent a message to a now-former Leicester City teammate following an announcement on their next move.

This season can only be viewed as a disaster for the Foxes, who suffered an immediate relegation back to the Championship from the Premier League.

With that drop being confirmed long before the campaign had ended, there were quickly suggestions that others would follow club legend Jamie Vardy out of Leicester this summer.

That has already proven to be the case, and one player to leave the King Power Stadium has already secured a move elsewhere.

Daniel Iversen completes Preston return

On Tuesday (27 May), it was confirmed that 11 players will depart the Foxes when their contracts officially expire at the end of June.

One of those who is set to leave Leicester is goalkeeper Daniel Iversen, who has already revealed where his next destination will be.

Earlier this month, Football Insider reported Iversen has agreed a deal to return to Preston North End, having previously played for the Championship side over two spells while on loan from the Foxes.

It has now been confirmed that the Dane has returned to Deepdale, signing a four-year deal with the club until the end of the 2028/29 season.

Taking to Instagram to react to that announcement, the now former Leicester star wrote: “Proud to announce I’ve signed with Preston North End!

“I’m very happy to be back at the club and excited for this new chapter at Deepdale. Can’t wait to get started!”

In response, Hermansen was among those to show his support for his fellow goalkeeper, commenting on the post with the message: “All the best my friend”.

Leicester City exit makes sense

Football Insider Verdict

Even with their relegation, there will be some players the club will fight to keep at the King Power Stadium this summer.

In the case of Iversen though, allowing him to move on at this point did make sense given the Foxes’ goalkeeping situation.

When Hermansen was ruled out for the rest of the season for Leicester through injury, it was Jakub Stolarczyk rather than Iversen who stepped in between the posts for Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s side.

That proved that the Dane is well down the pecking order for the club, and so taking the time, effort and money to hand him a new contract would have made little sense.

Iversen can now forge a career as a number one for himself at a club where he is already a proven success in Preston, which will be better for his career, and ensures Leicester have done the right thing here.
