Mads Hermansen woeful, 4/10 flops: West Ham player ratings vs Chelsea
West Ham United were thrashed 5-1 by London rivals Chelsea on Friday.
The Irons took the lead on 22 August thanks to Lucas Paqueta’s early strike, but Chelsea levelled through summer signing Joao Pedro on the 15-minute mark.
West Ham thought they found an equaliser from Niclas Fullkrug, but the former Borussia Dortmund man’s finish was disallowed for an offside.
Matters then took a significant turn for the worse for Graham Potter’s men, as goals from Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernandez ensured that the visitors held a 3-1 lead at half-time.
Enzo Maresca’s men asserted their dominance in the second half, with Mads Hermansen failing to keep Moises Caicedo and Trevoh Chalobah’s efforts at bay.
Meanwhile, Potter was already under mounting pressure before suffering a comprehensive defeat for the second consecutive week.

Mads Hermansen – 4
Mads Hermansen cannot be directly blamed for the three first half goals that he conceded. However, after West Ham’s 3-0 defeat at Sunderland on the opening weekend, but he should have done better to prevent both Caicedo and Chalobah’s goals. A woeful performance from a goalkeeper who has conceded eight goals in two Premier League games this term.
Jean-Clair Todibo – 5
The France international played his role in a Potters backline who simply couldn’t deal with Chelsea’s attacking threat.
Max Kilman – 4
The former Wolves man allowed himself to be bullied by Liam Delap, which proved very costly for Potter’s side at the London Stadium.
Nayef Aguerd – 5
Yet another West Ham centre-back who was complicit in a poor defensive display against their London rivals.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 4
The ex-Manchester United defender totally let his side down by failing to mark Neto for Chelsea’s second goal.
James Ward-Prowse – 5
James Ward-Prowse allowed Potter’s midfield to be completely overrun by Caicedo and Fernandez while failing to show his creativity.
Tomas Soucek – 5
After the Hammers lacked quality in the middle of the park, supporters would have initially been pleased to see him back in the starting lineup. However, the Czechia international lacked quality.
Malick Diouf – 6
The summer signing was the only defensive player to show any quality for West Ham against Chelsea, assisting Paqueta’s opening goal.
Lucas Paqueta – 7
The Brazil international was by far the best of a poor bunch, scoring an impressive goal to hand the East Londoners an early lead, which increasingly felt like a distant memory with every goal for the Blues.
Niclas Fullkrug – 4
Fullkrug was the polar opposite of Chelsea striker Delap, and failed to make his physical presence felt before being deservedly subbed off at half time.
Jarrod Bowen – 5
The England man was far below his usual standards.

Freddie Potts (for Todibo, 45) – 6
The youngster who spent last season on loan with Portsmouth showed the sort of desire that several teammates lacked.
Callum Wilson (for Fullkrug, 45) – 6
Callum Wilson should have scored when he had a free header from close range, but he demonstrated an attacking threat that West Ham previously lacked when Fullkrug was on the field.
Kyle Walker-Peters (for Soucek, 70) – 5
The former Southampton man made his Hammers debut in extremely tough circumstances, entering the pitch when his new club were 5-1 down.
