'Magic', 'Beast' - Newcastle United fans delighted with 28-year-old's display v Southampton

Newcastle United fans expressed their delight on social media towards attacking midfielder Matt Ritchie’s performance against Southampton on Sunday afternoon.

The 28-year-old was one of the standout performers for the Magpies but they were held to a 2-2 league draw against Southampton at the St Mary’s Stadium.

Rafa Benitez’s team twice took the lead through goals from Isaac Hayden and Ayoze Perez but Saints striker Manolo Gabbiadini notched up a brace to earn his side a precious point.

The result means that the Magpies remain in ninth position in the league table, having lost just one of their last six Premier League matches.

The Toon Army were quick to respond to their side’s result on social media and the majority were them were impressed with Ritchie’s work-rate throughout the 90 minutes.

The Scotland international produced a wonderful assist for Perez for Newcastle’s second goal which typified his overall performance.

The forward has been one of the best players for the Magpies this season, contributing with an impressive four Premier League assists.

Ritchie will be hopeful that he can continue to contribute for his side when they welcome Crystal Palace to St James’ Park next weekend.
