‘Mainoo future in balance after new Man United talks as Chelsea ready to pounce’
Man United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo’s future remains uncertain following the latest updates on his contract situation.
The Red Devils academy graduate has quickly become a key player at first-team level after breaking into the senior side in 2023.
As things stand, there are two years remaining on the England international’s contract at Old Trafford, securing his future with the club until the end of the 2026/27 season.
There have been suggestions that Man United could be willing to sell Mainoo this summer in order to help ease the financial concerns around the club.
But given his talent and importance to the side, it would be something of a blow for the club to lose him so early in his career.
Indeed, Football Insider recently reported that Man United were planning to hold new contract negotiations with Mainoo, and now a fresh update on his situation has emerged.

Kobbie Mainoo ‘positive talks’ update issued
According to an update from the Daily Mail, further talks over a contract extension for the 20-year-old have been held recently.
It is suggested those discussions led have provided a “little more positivity” when it comes to the prospect of Mainoo extending his contract with Man United.
Even so, there remains no resolution for the time being, and while there are apparently signs a compromise can be reached between the parties involved, there is “no guarantee” of that yet.

Should no deal be agreed, then Chelsea are apparently expected to be at the front of the queue to sign Mainoo if he is to be sold.
It is noted that numerous other clubs would be willing to meet the demands of the midfielder, who is also said to be keen to know where he would play in Ruben Amorim‘s system if he stays at Old Trafford.
The Englishman is one of the lowest-paid members of United’s first team and is reportedly looking for a deal worth around £180,000-a-week, less than half the £375,000-a-week fellow midfielder Casemiro is paid.

Man United must agree new Kobbie Mainoo contract
Football Insider Verdict
Failing to agree a new deal for the midfielder and allowing him to leave in the near future would feel like a huge disappointment at Old Trafford.
Man United badly missed Mainoo during his recent injury layoff, showing just how important he is to this side even if his role under Amorim is not yet fully established.
That highlights just how big a blow it would be for them to lose him long-term, especially with this having been such a difficult season for the club anyway.
Indeed, while there is an understandable need for the club to raise funds, there are less important players who can surely be sold to do that.
The money saved or brought in from them sales could then even go towards helping to fund a new contract for Mainoo, among other things.
With that in mind it feels that in spite of the challenges they face agreeing a new deal for the England international still has to be among the priorities for Man United.
