Major Arsenal vs Liverpool postponement update as Met Office upgrade weather warnings

Arsenal’s key Premier League clash with Liverpool on Thursday is at serious risk after a strengthened weather warning was issued.

A warning had already been posted with Storm Goretti’s arrival set to disrupt Arsenal’s game against Liverpool.

The Gunners will host the match at the Emirates Stadium, where they will look to build on their positive momentum.

Arsenal beat Bournemouth 3-2 on Saturday, and now sit with a strong advantage over Manchester City and Aston Villa at the top of the table.

Ruben Dias will miss up to six weeks through injury, with the Citizens facing a sudden crisis at the back.

Met Office upgrade Storm Goretti warning

Harsh weather conditions have already been affecting football matches across the country over the past week.

Several Championship and League One games were called off on the weekend, and a swath of Premier League games are at risk this week.

Arsenal will hope to avoid disruption as they look to keep hold of the momentum that they have gained in recent weeks.

Mikel Arteta‘s side looked to have hit a stumbling block when they were beaten by Villa at the start of December, with the build-up of injuries becoming overwhelming.

But the Gunners have responded by winning seven consecutive games since, including a 4-1 battering of Unai Emery‘s side last week.

Storm Goretti threatens to halt that run, however, with the Met Office’s yellow warning for snow on Thursday perilously close to engulfing the Emirates Stadium.

Warnings for snow in the surrounding areas of Leicester, Wolverhampton and Hereford have been upgraded to amber, with the storm threatening huge disruption.

Fans should keep a close eye on the warning, which may well cover North London within the next 24 hours.

Arsenal pitch inspection will be conducted as per protocol

As per FA protocol, Arsenal likely will have already contacted Anthony Taylor amid the chance of the weather disrupting Thursday’s game.

The referee will conduct a pitch assessment at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday morning to determine the conditions and avoid any wasted travel for fans.

Should conditions worsen throughout the day, however, officials will be keeping a close eye on the pitch and may be forced to take a view later in the day.

Both teams will ultimately hope that the game is able to go ahead as planned, with the prospect of an awkwardly rescheduled fixture certainly one to be avoided.
