Major Everton shake-up expected after source's Brands update - pundit

Everton will be reviewing their recruitment process behind the scenes after a turbulent week at the club.

That’s according to former Leeds stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider amid the latest on Marcel Brands’ future.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (3 December) that Brands is “90 per cent likely” to be dismissed following Everton’s woeful run of form and the latest is that he has now been dismissed.

The Toffees are winless in eight games heading into Monday (6 December) night’s game against Arsenal.

Director of football Brands joined the set-up at Goodison Park in 2018 and signed a new three-year deal in April.

Kenny insists Everton’s recruitment has not been good enough in recent years, a responsibility that lands at Brands’ door.

“Everton have spent a lot of money in recent years,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Every manager has signed their own players while trying to make their squad.

“They then get left behind with another manager then bringing their players in.

“It’s a patchwork of a squad. It doesn’t fit together and that is where recruitment is key.

“It’s a jigsaw and it doesn’t work. You can spend £100million on three players but you have to follow that by doing the same on another area of the pitch.

“Recruitment will be under the spotlight behind the scenes, bet your life. It hasn’t been good enough for years.

“I think there are probably changes coming in that department.”

Brands has overseen the big-money signings of Richarlison, Alex Iwobi, Yerry Mina and Moise Kean.

Only Richarlison has been a regular feature for the Blues this season.
