Major Leeds injury blow: Senior player ruled out of clash v Sheffield United – confirmed

Leeds United manager Thomas Christiansen has confirmed that key player Pontus Jansson will miss next week’s Yorkshire derby against Sheffield United.
Jansson, 26, was forced off the pitch in the first-half of Leeds’ 4-1 defeat to Cardiff at Elland Road on Saturday.
The Sweden international’s setback is yet another piece of bad news for Christiansen, who is struggling for numbers in defence and had to play Laurens De Bock and Adam Forshaw in a back three with Matthew Pennington against the Bluebirds.
Jansson’s setback serves as a major blow for the Whites, who will also be without Liam Cooper, Gaetano Berardi and Luke Ayling in defence for the clash with Sheffield United next weekend due to injuries and suspensions.
Christiansen confirmed after the game against Cardiff that it is an ankle injury for the Swedish senior player.
“He had an injury in the ankle. I don’t believe he will be ready for the next game,” he said, as quoted by Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Lee Sobot on his personal Twitter account on Saturday evening.

Jansson has been key in the Leeds side this season, making 28 appearances in all competitions and scoring two goals.
He was one booking away from a two-game suspension of his own as Christiansen’s side continue to suffer with disciplinary issues that are now on the verge of being laughable.
The Whites have failed to finish with 11 men on the pitch in four of their last five matches, despite the Danish manager making it clear recently that he is trying to get rid of the ill-discipline from his squad.
A local derby against Sheffield United may not be the perfect game to respond though, as tensions will no doubt be high among the Leeds fans in a high-stakes affair.
