Major update on Rangers smoking gun as Celtic/Scottish clubs stance on Ibrox vote revealed

Scottish clubs plan to reject Rangers’ push for an independent SPFL investigation over the bungled league-ending proposal vote unless they hand over their ‘smoking gun’ immediately, Football Insider has learned.

The Glasgow giants have launched a strong attack on the league governing body in a series of public statements and their dossier of evidence, which they claim proves SPFL corruption, will be on the agenda at a meeting of the 12 top-flight clubs today.

Rangers have yet to divulge the evidence supplied to them by a whistleblower but sources have told Football Insider they will come under huge pressure to do so at the 2pm meeting today.

Hearts and Stranraer are committed to backing the Light Blues’ proposals but others, including Celtic are yet to be convinced.

Rangers want an independent probe into the SPFL’s handling of the coronavirus lockdown, including ending the lower leagues’ season early.

The Scottish Premiership clubs intend to call for the Light Blues to hand over their evidence straight away, or their demand for an emergency general meeting across all four divisions is set to be rejected.

At least eight of the SPL’s 12 clubs are required to support their requisition in addition to eight Championship votes and another 15 from across League One and Two also needed.

The source explained such support is deemed impossible without evidence of SPFL foul play.

Rangers have engaged in a public war of words with the SPFL and say “no fair-minded person” can take the SPFL’s vote to curtail the lower leagues in Scotland seriously.

It gives the SPFL board the power to “call” the top flight if it deemed the season could not be completed. Celtic are 13 points ahead of Rangers while Hearts are bottom and in danger of relegation.

Football Insider first revealed on 4 April that Rangers were planning legal action against plans to end the season prematurely, which the club substantiated in one of their recent follow-up statements.

Rangers have claimed “bullying” and “coercion” of clubs by the SPFL and called for Doncaster and the league’s legal adviser Rod McKenzie to be removed while an investigation was launched.

In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that an Ibrox player has an agreement in principle to join an English club this summer.
