Major West Ham transfer development after Monday attacker talks - report
By Harry Sykes
West Ham have rejected a second bid from Marseille for rebel playmaker Dimitri Payet, according to a report.
The Sun claim the London club’s transfer chief David Sullivan held talks with officials from the French club on Monday about a deal to sell Payet.
It is said that Marseille followed up their initial offer of £20million with an improved bid on Monday for the France international that was “flatly rejected” by West Ham.
The Sun report that the major development ended with Sullivan standing firm in his stance not to be pushed into a quick sale of Payet.
West Ham chiefs are now braced for a third bid from Marseille later this week for a player who has told them he want to quit this month and never wear a Hammers jersey again.

Sky Sports claimed on their website on Sunday night that West Ham have placed a valuation of £30million on the France attacking midfielder, who turns 30 in March.
The sum would represent a near-£20million profit on the Frenchman, who moved to West Ham 18 months ago from Marseille.
Bilic insisted the attacking midfielder would not be sold in the January window as West Ham battened down the hatches in an attempt to fend off potential suitors.
But the club’s stance then appeared to soften as the vice-chairman Karren Brady conceded on Saturday in her column for the Sun that “probably sooner rather than later he will be on his way”, amid reports that the player’s family is unhappy with life in London.
West Ham won 3-0 against Crystal Palace in the absence of Payet at the London Stadium on Saturday as home fans made their feelings clear about the man who was awarded their player of the year last season.
Supporters chanted for Payet to leave the club this month as their team beat their capital rivals to climb to 12th in the Premier League, their highest point of what has been a tricky season.
The victory means Bilic’s side now have 25 points, nine points ahead of the drop zone.
In other West Ham transfer news, the club have agreed a landmark striker deal.
