Man City 115 charges: Big update on FFP case – sources

Manchester City are unlikely to see their financial fair play case concluded before the end of next season.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that it’s a “complex” situation and could drag on well into 2025 before an outcome is reached.

The Premier League hasn’t made the date public for the Citizens’ upcoming hearing, with reports suggesting it may take place in October this year.

Man City were handed 115 charges by the governing body in February 2023 for allegedly breaching the financial fair play rules over a nine-year period.

But the club’s lawyers have so far disputed those claims, with O’Rourke noting their legal team is likely to push back against any potential punishment that could be coming the Citizens’ way.

That means it could be a further year before the matter is brought to a close, meaning the case may not be settled until more than two years after the initial charges were handed out.

Man City FFP case could drag on until 2025

Man City have long argued that they have done nothing wrong since the Premier League released its statement 14 months ago.

They have managed to buy time and get their arguments in order ahead of the hearing, which is now expected to take place later this year.

The case has caused anger among various stakeholders after Everton and Nottingham Forest have both recently been handed points deductions for breaching the financial rules.

The matter is much more complex for the Citizens after they have denied the charges, while their fellow Premier League sides both admitted their guilt.

It’s unlikely a resolution will be reached before the end of next season as the situation continues to drag on at the Etihad.
