Man City 115 charges case could be paused after new twist – Stefan Borson

Man City’s 115 charges fight could be paused as the wait continues for a solution to the Premier League’s Associated Party Transactions (APT) rules.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the APT situation is “urgent”.

Man City took legal action against the Premier League regarding the APT rules currently in place at an arbitration hearing in June.

Both sides have claimed a victory in the case after the arbitration panel’s decision was published on 7 October, where two aspects of the rules were deemed to be unlawful.

The Premier League had scheduled a meeting of the 20 top-flight clubs for 17 October to decide how to respond to the ruling, but in the latest twist – it was postponed while further clarification is sought.

Man City 115 charges hearing could now be paused, says Borson

Borson claimed City’s legal team will not want to return to the APT case while they are fighting the Premier League over 115 charges in a separate hearing.

He told Football Insider: “It’s not a good situation for the Premier League.

“They’re now in the hands of the tribunal and I don’t know how quickly they can sit on this thing.

“The other aspect of it is that both City and the Premier League are both busy in another hearing.

“It’s not that easy to switch between big cases. There is a lot of overlap with the lawyers.

“City’s lead KC’s are busy with the 115 charges and they’re not going to want to be distracted by the tribunal on the APT stuff.

“They may well want to leave it until after the 115 charges are finished, or they could leave a gap in that hearing to sort out the APT case.

“It’s so urgent.

“We just don’t know. It’s pretty chaotic for this to be happening, and we’re reading between the lines because all we know is what is coming out.”
