Man City 115 charges: Club could be ‘relegated to the Championship’ – sources
Manchester City are unlikely to be relegated to League Two but could be demoted to the Championship due to issues surrounding the integrity of the league following the 115 charges aimed at them.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed the maximum punishment the Citizens could receive would be relegation to the Championship.
Man City were handed 115 charges by the governing body in February 2023 for allegedly breaching the financial fair play rules over a nine-year period.
Although an unknown hearing date has been set, Football Insider revealed on 27 April the matter is unlikely to be resolved before the end of next season due to the complexity surrounding the case.
O’Rourke suggested the Premier League champions may have to pay a “huge fee” if they are found guilty by the independent commission.
The club are adamant they haven’t breached the rules and are likely to fight any potential punishment that could come their way.
Man City could be relegated amid 115 charges
This case has already dragged on for far too long in the eyes of various stakeholders and a resolution doesn’t appear to be any closer.
Premier League chief Richard Masters revealed on 26 April the hearing will take place in the “near future”, but he didn’t divulge any further details.
There have been reports suggesting it could take place in October, providing Man City with plenty of time to get their arguments in order as they look to prove their innocence.

The situation has caused plenty of anger after Everton and Nottingham Forest have both recently been handed points deductions for breaching the financial rules.
It’s unknown what the potential punishment could be for the Citizens, but any form of relegation would be a huge blow for the club and their future aspirations.
In other news, Man City could sell forward this summer in shock move.
