Man City 115 charges: Keith Wyness drops ‘big’ update as verdict comes in

Manchester City have been tipped to receive the verdict on their 115 charges imminently which will trigger a healing process for both parties.

Man City were dealt the charges by the Premier League in February 2023 for allegedly breaching the financial fair play (FFP) rules over a nine-year period between 2009 and 2018.

The claims state that Pep Guardiola’s side concealed payments through third parties by disguising them as sponsorship revenue.

An independent commission hearing ended in December 2024, with the panel still considering its final verdict.

This is when the Man City verdict will be announced

Finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider Man City are likely to receive the verdict this week or in the next international break in November.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that the sooner the case is over, the better.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that the whole situation has dragged on for far too long and that it is time to move on.

Wyness added that both Man City and the Premier League need to start the healing process after spending heavily on legal fees.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “My hope has always been that behind the scenes it was being delayed because they were trying to work out some sort of compromise, stop all the legal bleeding and all the rest of it.

“Look, it’s a big big thing regarding when it’s going to happen and I think the sooner we get it out of the way, the better. I think everybody feels that. It’s been a cloud that’s been hanging over the Premier League and football in general for a long time now.

“Whatever the outcome, we’ve got to get it out in the open, and we’ve got to start the healing process. Whoever wins or doesn’t win or whether it’s a score draw, regardless, let’s just move on now because it’s been too long and it’s got to get resolved.”

In terms of the legal fees involved, the cost to both sides has reportedly topped £200million over the past five years.

Sources say that the Premier League has come under pressure from other top-flight clubs, who are concerned over the rising costs if Man City’s case isn’t resolved soon.
