Man City 115 charges: Keith Wyness slams Premier League favouritism after update

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has accused Premier League chief executive Richard Masters of a lack of transparency over Man City and their 115 outstanding financial charges.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted it is “one rule for the big boys and another rule for those below them”.

Man City were hit with 115 charges by the Premier League in February 2023 for allegedly breaching financial rules over nine years.

However, the case is yet to be heard despite expedited hearings for Everton and Nottingham Forest since the bombshell charges dropped.

Masters spoke out last week (26 April) at the European Leagues General Assembly to claim “a date has been set and the case will resolve itself at some point in the near future”.

City have won each of the last three Premier League titles and are favourites to beat Arsenal to the trophy once again in the 2023-24 campaign.

Masters accused of favouring ‘big boys’ after Man City charges latest

Wyness suggested Masters, who has been a top-flight chief since 2019, is biased against the league’s smaller sides.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “In effect, he’s said nothing more.

“He hasn’t given away any timings, any dates – and that just adds to the lack of transparency.

“From what I understand it’s a complex case, I get that.

“But when it suits them, they’ve been able to expedite things for Everton and Forest.

“They should be able to expedite City’s case somehow.

“Masters hasn’t been transparent throughout this whole process for City, and it seems to be one rule for the big boys and another rule for those below them.”
