Man City 115 charges: Wyness makes ‘earth-shattering’ expulsion claim
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed there has been a “mood change” at Man City about their outstanding 115 financial charges.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested the Premier League may not have the “stomach” to condemn City to an “earth-shattering” expulsion from the top flight.
Man City were hit with 115 charges by the Premier League in February 2023 for allegedly breaching financial rules over nine years.
Premier League chief executive Richard Masters claimed on 26 April that “a date has been set” for proceedings and “the case will resolve itself at some point in the near future”.
Man City could escape ‘earth-shattering’ expulsion after new twist, says Wyness
Potential punishments range from fines to points deductions or potential expulsion from the top flight.
Nevetheless, Wyness claimed City chiefs may now be feeling optimistic about the outcome of their case.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I’m sensing a bit of a mood change.
“I think Man City are seeing a way through this now, and the Premier League will also want a way through this.
“The clubs who have already been sanctioned, Everton and Nottingham Forest, will be disappointed if there is some sort of fudge around this – but I think it’s to everyone’s benefit.
“There’s no transparency, so we’re having to second guess.
“I’m sensing that City think they’re going to be okay.

“I know the Premier League feel that if they were to reach a place where they have to expel Man City from the competition, it would be absolutely earth-shattering for them.
“We’ll have to see how it plays out and who actually has the stomach for this gunfight.”
