Fans on social media were outraged by the decision, with some fans accusing City of “cheating” and “corruption”.
Man City will discover their opponents in the final on Sunday afternoon when Man United face Coventry City.
City will resume their Premier League title race when they face Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Thursday evening (25 April).
