
Man City accused of ‘corruption’ by rival fans after VAR drama vs Wolves
Rival fans have accused Man City of “corruption” and “cheating” after they were awarded two penalties against Wolves on Saturday afternoon (4 May).
City enjoyed a comfortable 5-1 win over Wolves at the Etihad Stadium as Pep Guardiola’s side moved closer to defending their Premier League crown.
Erling Haaland stole the headlines with four goals against Gary O’Neil’s side, while Julian Alvarez netted the fifth and Hwang Hee-Chan scored for the visitors.
The reigning champions broke the deadlock in Manchester within 12 minutes after referee Craig Pawson pointed to the spot for a foul against Phil Foden.
Erling Haaland stepped up to score his 33rd goal of the season across all competitions and extend his lead in the Premier League Golden Boot race.
The Norwegian doubled City’s lead with a towering header after half an hour and then sealed his hat-trick with another spot-kick just moments before half-time.
Both penalty decisions required intervention from VAR – which was manned by Stuart Attwell at Stockley Park.
Rival fans have slammed the “ridiculous” decisions, with some supporters accusing City of “cheating their way” to the Premier League title.
City have slashed Arsenal’s lead at the top of the table to just one point with Guardiola’s side still boasting a game in hand.
They return to action next Saturday (11 May) when they could return to the top of the table if they beat Fulham at Craven Cottage.
