Man City agree Claudio Echeverri deal as arrival date emerges – Sources

Man City have agreed a deal to sign Argentine sensation Claudio Echeverri, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Echeverri, 18, will link up with the Citizens in January 2025.

The River Plate star will remain at the Argentine giants on loan until next winter when he is set to link up with Pep Guardiola’s side.

His pathway into first-team action at Man City is expected to follow a similar route to Julian Alvarez, who also joined from River Plate in 2022 before being loaned back out.

Alvarez has become an important part of the Citizens’ squad and the club will hope the Echeverri will have a similar impact.

The attacking midfielder is considered one of Argentina’s most exciting young prospects and has already made 15 senior appearances for River Plate.

He has bagged one goal and three assists in the senior side, including an assist on his debut in June 2023.

The teen also captained Argentina to the semi-finals of the under-17s World Cup in December 2023 and has since been promoted to the under-23s, making his debut in January.

City are also set to have another young South American attacker in their ranks, with sources telling Football Insider (5 April) that Girona star Savio is set to join this summer.
