Man City and PSG stars react to Gianluigi Donnarumma’s message after his debut display

Man City’s newest goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma shared an emotional message on social media after making his debut, with both current and former teammates quick to respond.

Man City beat rivals Man United in a 3-0 win, as the side bounced back from two consecutive losses in the Premier League.

One of the key talking points before kick-off coming into the game was whether Pep Guardiola would continue to start James Trafford, but Donnarumma was handed his debut.

Football Insider had already revealed that Guardiola has chosen Donnarumma to be City’s starting goalkeeper despite Trafford’s earlier arrival in the summer.

Now, following his debut, the goalkeeper addressed the supporters in a heartfelt post, after earning a clean sheet in his first appearance.

After Donnarumma’s first display for the side, he posted several pictures of the game, his celebrations with a caption that read: “Manchester is [blue]” with a light blue heart emoji.

He saw plenty of reaction to his post, with his former PSG teammates Bradley Barcola and Ousmane Dembele showing their support on his debut by liking the post.

His new teammates, such as Josko Gvardiol, Ruben Dias and Tijjani Reijnders, also left a like on the post.

Donnarumma arrived at Man City from PSG for a fee of £30.3million following Ederson’s exit to Fenerbahce as a replacement.

He had has just one year remaining on his PSG contract and was considered surplus to requirements after he failed to commit to a new deal.

He was at PSG since 2021 and was a key player in the side’s Champions League triumph last term, but City swooped in to sign the Italian on deadline day.

James Trafford faces uncertain Man City future

City had already invested in a goalkeeper earlier in the summer after signing Trafford, but it appears his future is already looking uncertain.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Trafford will likely to seek assurances about his playing time from Guardiola, given the increased competition.

Trafford started City’s opening three matches but endured a shaky run of form, and the club decided to move for Donnarumma. But neither will have signed at the Etihad to sit on the bench, the club could soon face a decision over Trafford.
