‘Man City are completely correct’ as they take new swipe at Arsenal & Everton
Man City have been locked in a battle with the Premier League over Associated Party Transaction (APT) rules for almost a year now.
City have already forced the rules to be rewritten once and they launched a new accusation at the Premier League last month – claiming the rules favoured Arsenal, Everton and Leicester City, who benefit greatly from low-interest loans from their owners.
According to The Times (29 April), those clubs could now be forced to disclose detailed information about their shareholder loans.
Man City could have to wait until the beginning of 2026 before an independent panel publishes its new verdict in the second APT case – with the trial set to take place in mid-October.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested the Premier League should come down hard on any clubs utilising low or no-interest shareholder loans.

‘Arsenal, Everton and Leicester loans are wrong’, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness claimed Man City have a point as they look to eliminate shareholder loans in the Premier League.
They originally challenged APT rules after being prevented from striking lucrative sponsorship deals with owner-linked companies.
Wyness insisted he is looking forward to the Premier League “getting out of the courts” and “back to worrying about football”.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think Man City have got a point.
“The whole issue around the APT rules is trying to stop the help to clubs through the sponsorship deals which are above fair market value.
“However, these shareholder loans are given to clubs at no interest or low interest – and that’s also helping the club.
“It’s wrong, and there’s a case to be answered for by the clubs who are taking these loans.
“Nevertheless, we’ve got to get out of the courts and start some mediation behind the scenes.
“We’ve got to get back to worrying about football.”

Man City could beat Liverpool to Juventus star
Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (2 May) that Man City are leading Liverpool in the race to sign Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso this summer.
If they fail to qualify for the Champions League, Juventus will be forced to sell players to raise funds and would accept £40-50million for the full-back.
Cambiaso can play on both sides of the defence and was a top target for City in the January transfer window.
