Finance guru: Man City ‘big winners’ amid new twist in watchdog talks
Man City will be the “big winners” if the Premier League successfully blocks the introduction of an independent regulator for English football.
That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest twist in plans to install the third-party arbitrator.
The fate of the regulator, which was proposed in Tracey Crouch MP’s Fan-Led Review of Football Governance, is hanging in the balance as Liz Truss’ new Government appears to have withdrawn its support.

The Times reported last Saturday (24 September) that the FA has drawn up new plans for a regulator that would not need the support of official legislation.
But it is understood that the overriding mood within the industry is that the suggested watchdog model is not impartial enough.
Plumley insists that the likes of City will be delighted that they appear to be winning the war against independent regulation.
“It’s no big secret that the one thing the Premier League doesn’t want is independent regulation,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“If the story is that the Government are putting it on the back burner, that benefits those clubs.

“Within that, it benefits the Big Six because they are the ones who take most of the pot anyway. They are the big winners here.
“When you piece all that together. I imagine there are a few clubs who will be very happy with the way this seems to be going.”
