Man City board have made up their minds after record-breaking news emerges – O’Rourke
The Man City board will not take any action following fans’ in-stadium protest against the price hike of season tickets, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the board, headed by chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak, are not planning to backtrack on plans to increase prices by up to five per cent.
Ahead of the Citizen’s Premier League clash against Arsenal last week (31 March), City fans unfurled a banner reading ‘Record profit but record prices. Stop exploiting our loyalty’ from the stands of the Etihad.
The club recently announced plans to increase the cost of season tickets and the banner was quickly confiscated by stewards before their 0-0 draw with the fellow title-chasing Gunners.
Man City board commit to ticket increase despite fan backlash
Many Premier League sides have issued changes to their season ticket policies that have angered fans, including Tottenham who are set to scrap concession tickets for OAPs from the 2025-26 season.
It is believed that City fans’ protests have not made an impact on the board’s decision, and further increases in costs are “inevitable”.
“I think it’s a shared feeling across the league,” he told the Inside Track podcast.
“We can see the financial accounts of some clubs who are making major record profits and record revenue.
“It does sting for supporters who go every week to see season ticket prices rising.
“We all know there’s a cost of living crisis going on right now.
“For Man City, fans have made their points known to the board but I don’t think it will have any impact.
“Football is seen as a business, so the prices are only going to go up – that’s inevitable.

“It’s going to hurt the fans’ pockets more and more and they can protest all they want.
“I don’t see anything changing, especially with the Premier League fat cats who want as much money as they possibly can.”
