Man City boss Pep Guardiola ridiculed by pundit after quotes emerge – ‘I’m not having this’

Kevin Campbell has rubbished the idea Man City are suffering from a defensive injury crisis.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker suggested Pep Guardiola is making a mountain out of a molehill.

John Stones, Kyle Walker and Kalvin Phillips are currently sidelined through injury, while Aymeric Laporte has recently returned from a long spell on the sidelines.

As quoted by the Daily Mail (10 October), Pep Guardiola claimed his available defenders “cannot handle” their current workload in light of the absentees.

The Premier League champions travel to Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday.

When asked by Football Insider if City’s current absentees post a significant problem for Guardiola, Campbell said: “Listen, they have got lots of versatile players.

“I am not having this. Let’s not pretend like they are struggling.

“If Man City are struggling, what are some of the other clubs. They are not struggling. Injuries happen at every club.

“They have such a big, flexible squad. Everyone was concerned when Rodri and Phillips were injured but [Ilkay] Gundogan went in there and bossed it.

“The richer get richer but claim to be poor. That is Guardiola in a nutshell. He is a smart man but I see through it.

“City have a world-class squad and a world-class academy. Get one of the youngsters in there if you need to. Do not worry about it.”
