Finance guru issues ‘chaotic’ Man City claim amid Kalvin Phillips agent drama – ‘Fifa are watching’
The current legal drama surrounding Man City star Kalvin Phillips and his former agent is emblematic of the “chaotic” nature of the intermediary industry.
That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Phillips’ switch from Kevin Sharp to the Stellar agency in June.
England midfielder Phillips, who is currently in a race against time to recover from shoulder surgery for the World Cup, signed for City from Leeds United in a £44million deal in the summer.

He joined Stellar shortly before the move after giving notice of his intentions to leave Sharp’s Palm Sports Management in January.
But as relayed by the Daily Mail on Monday (7 October), Sharp is threatening to sue Stellar for allegedly inducing Phillips to breach the contract he had with his company.
It is understood that Stellar believe they will triumph if legal action does ensue.
Fifa are currently in the process of reviewing the agent system, with a cap on the percentage of a player’s salary or transfer among the possible measures on the table.
The Phillips story comes as no surprise given the high-stakes nature of the agent industry, insists Plumley.
“The agent market is very chaotic at times,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“A lot of this goes on. There is often friction between agents, agencies and players. At the moment, that is par for the course.
“We know that Fifa are looking at wider regulations around agents and monitoring that more closely.

“But this does show the chaos in this industry because of the amount of money that can be made by transferring these players.
“You can’t begrudge anyone from trying to do this, but there is always going to be some fallout from things like this.“
