Man City ‘comfortable’ over Rodri’s future after ‘offer’ tabled

Manchester City remain hopeful that Rodri will sign a new contract and snub a move to Real Madrid as talks over fresh terms intensify.

Rodri has been one of the best midfielders in the world over the last few years at Man City, but has plunged his future at the club into doubt in recent times.

While away on international duty with Spain, he admitted that no player can turn down a move to Real Madrid as he enters the final year of his City contract.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, the Citizens are still confident of agreeing a new deal with the 29-year-old despite Real’s interest.

Tying him down to a new contract would have a real impact on Man City’s finances, but they believe that his quality means he is worth the extension.

Man City continuing Rodri contract talks despite Real Madrid rumours

The Spain international is nearing the end of his seventh season at the Etihad Stadium, but has only made 18 Premier League appearances so far this term due to a recurring hamstring problem.

City fans were not best pleased when he left the door open to a move to Madrid on international duty, but the club remain keen on agreeing a new deal before he can leave for free next summer.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Rodri, away on international duty with Spain, did leave the door open for a potential move to Real Madrid, saying that no player could turn down a move to the Spanish giants.

“Look, I think City are quite comfortable with the situation right now. He’s got a year to run his current contract.

“They have offered him a new deal. Talks are ongoing over trying to sort that out and tie him down to a new contract.”

Bernardo Silva looks set to leave at the end of this season, and long-serving centre-back Stones is another who is likely to depart for pastures new.

Sources have exclusively told Football Insider that Everton are ready to sign Stones on a free transfer, 10 years on from his departure.

He has made just seven Premier League appearances this season, with a calf injury currently keeping him sidelined until the end of April.
