Man City could accept ‘big bid’ for Ilkay Gundogan after report from Italy – pundit

Alan Hutton has suggested Man City will have a replacement in mind for Ilkay Gundogan if the midfielder were to leave this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa right-back said City would consider a “big bid” for the player.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato (17 July), Juventus are interested in a deal for the 31-year-old.

The German international has a year left on his contract at the Etihad.

Gundogan joined from Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund in 2016.

When asked if he thought Man City would be happy to let Gundogan leave this summer, Hutton told Football Insider: “I think he’s a really good player.

“He’s probably underrated in my opinion, he kind of flies under the radar a wee bit in that squad.

But he scores goals and he works so hard. Whenever he’s called upon he plays at a high level. I wouldn’t think Man City would want to let a player like that go unless they were going to bring somebody in.

They won’t want to weaken their squad, they want to make it better.

Man City

Money talks of course, if a big bid came in for him then he’d obviously have to think about it.

Pep Guardiola isn’t a daft guy, he’ll know exactly what’s going on and if that happens I’m pretty sure he’s got one or two options that he would turn to.

In other news, a pundit ‘fully expects’ Man City to seal more signings as Marc Cucurella alternative emerges.
