Man City could accept ‘big’ Ederson fee with replacement already found – sources

Manchester City could sell Ederson for a “big fee” after Saudi Arabian clubs have expressed an interest in signing him this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed Man City already have a “ready-made replacement” for the Brazilian international in backup goalkeeper Stefan Ortega.

Ederson has been the undisputed No.1 since joining the Citizens from Portuguese side Benfica for £35million in 2017, but he could now be on his way out of the club despite his contract running until 2026.

O’Rourke revealed Etihad chiefs might consider offloading the 30-year-old to bring in “much-needed revenue” to help balance the books.

Pep Guardiola is expected to once again freshen up his squad this summer as he looks to continue setting the pace after claiming the Premier League title for a fourth season in a row.

Ederson could leave Man City after Saudi interest

Ederson has been widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world following his performances for Man City over the past seven years.

The Brazilian has remained largely unchallenged during that time, having made 332 appearances for the club and claimed 17 trophies as one of the staples of the Guardiola era.

But the Citizens could now be tempted to let him leave for the Saudi Pro League after Ortega has impressed when deputising for his teammate.

The 31-year-old joined Man City on a free transfer from Arminia Bielefeld following their relegation from the Bundesliga in 2022.

The German has kept eight clean sheets in his 19 appearances this season, while Ederson has recorded 16 shut-outs in his 43 outings.

Ederson might not be the only big name potentially heading out of the Etihad this summer after Football Insider revealed on 22 May the club will accept a bid in the region of £50million for midfielder Bernardo Silva after PSG have expressed an interest in signing him.

In other news, 29-year-old is “very unhappy” at Man City.
