Man City could face new investigation after 115 charges case – Stefan Borson
Manchester City have been caught up in a legal battle with the Premier League for the past two years after being handed 115 charges in February 2023.
An independent commission hearing into the case started in September last year and ended in December, with the panel now considering its verdict.
La Liga president Javier Tebas hit the headlines last week following his latest allegations aimed towards the Premier League champions.
Speaking to journalists at The Financial Times’ Business of Football Summit on Thursday (27 February), Tebas accused Man City of an Enron-style deception by hiding their costs in affiliated companies.
The US energy firm’s executives were found to have earned millions from using partnerships to generate false profits and hide its debt.
Tebas said La Liga filed a complaint to the European Commission about the Manchester giants’ behaviour in July 2023, with an investigation currently ongoing over a potential Foreign Subsidies Regulations (FSR) breach.
Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider the club could face further investigations if they are found guilty in their 115 charges case.
They are accused of breaching the financial fair play (FFP) rules over a nine-year period and concealing payments through third parties by disguising them as sponsorship revenue.

Man City could face implications beyond Premier League with ‘major’ setback
Borson suggested there could be implications for Man City beyond the Premier League if they suffer a “major” setback in their 115 charges case.
He told Football Insider: “I suspect that the investigation and the complaint into PSG, and if it was City, would have terminated quite some time ago.
“The EU has a window in which they can, first of all, start an investigation. I think it’s a fairly short window.
“I think it’s something like 25 days, which they can commence an investigation after a complaint is received. Beyond that, they then have an investigation period that can be extended.
“But I think it’s unlikely that it would have been extended all the way through to 2025 because the complaint was made a long time ago.
“I think all of that is subject to one thing, which is that City do not have a very major setback in the 115 case.
“In the event that the 115 case goes against them, then I think it is possible that matters of this nature can rear their head again and investigations can follow. I think that’s just the nature of the beast.
“If they are found to be liable under the 115 case, that will have some implications that go beyond the Premier League.”
