Man City could match astronomical Ederson offer – Keith Wyness
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Ederson could end up staying at Manchester City if they match the offer he has on the table to move to Saudi Arabia.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – admitted Man City’s stance will likely depend on how much Pep Guardiola wants to keep hold of the Brazil international this summer.
Football Insider revealed on 30th May the Premier League champions are seriously considering selling first-choice goalkeeper Ederson this summer.
The Daily Star reported on 6 July Al-Nassr have offered Ederson £900,000 a week to join the club, who have former teammate Aymeric Laporte as well as Sadio Mane and Cristiano Ronaldo on their books.
But The Independent reported on 15 July Man City have now turned down a bid from the Middle Eastern side for the 30-year-old.
Man City could keep hold of Ederson if big-money offer tabled
Wyness believes the decision over Ederson’s future will be based on personal reasons rather than football due to the money on offer.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It’s interesting how Saudi is now actually managing to get into Pep’s mind a little bit in terms of players having options.
“That is incredible really that they have that problem to contend with. I think Ederson will end up staying and won’t take the Saudi deal.
“But then again, it seems to fluctuate on a daily basis. If you are being offered such a huge amount of money, then of course it’s going to weigh on your mind.
“You have got your family saying ‘Come on, let’s think about this’ and your agent also pushing you.
“Yet for football reasons, he may want to remain loyal to Pep. It’s going to be a difficult decision, but I think he may possibly end up staying.

“If City were even able to match that Saudi deal, that would maybe be enough to just tip him over the line.
“But it really depends on how much Pep wants to keep him and what he’s got in reserve that could step up. Ortega has shown he can do it.
“City are very clever about squad depth, so it’s going to be one of those fine-line decisions that’s made on personal reasons rather than football.”
