Man City could now be planning for Pep Guardiola’s exit – Stefan Borson

Manchester City could be planning for Pep Guardiola’s potential exit after having a quiet summer transfer window.

That is the view of former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the Premier League champions could be saving some financial firepower for a new manager in case the Catalan leaves the club.

Man City made just two new additions during the summer transfer window, with Savinho joining from Troyes for £30million and Ilkay Gundogan returning from Barcelona on a free transfer.

But the permanent exits of Julian Alvarez, Joao Cancelo, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Sergio Gomez and Tommy Doyle saw them rake in well over £100million in transfer fees.

There has been plenty of speculation around Guardiola’s position at the Etihad, with his contract set to expire in June 2025.

Man City content with playing squad after new signings decision

But Borson believes the lack of signings is probably down to the quality Man City already have in the building after winning four Premier League titles in a row.

“I doubt it’s anything to do with the charges or anything to do with that nature,” Borson told Football Insider.

“But they may well be planning for a post-Guardiola period and they want to reserve some firepower for that.

“Clearly, a new manager is not going to be able to do the same as Pep in terms of the relatively small squad you would think.

“I suspect it’s a combination of things, but my gut feel is that it’s largely to do with the quality of player that they have already got in the organisation.”
