Man City could now dodge punishment after hearing update – Keith Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Man City are unlikely to face 115 charges punishment until “next season”.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed appeals will mean any sanctions will be up in the air until the 2025-26 campaign.

The Times has reported (12 August) that City’s hearing date has now been brought forward to mid-to-late September after it was originally planned to take place in November.

Pep Guardiola’s side, who deny all wrongdoing, were charged last year for a range of alleged rule breaches – including failure to comply with the league’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) for seven seasons.

The reigning Premier League champions are going for a fifth straight top-flight title in the 2024-25 campaign.

Man City ‘final solution’ to come in 2025-26 season, says Wyness

Wyness claimed it could be Easter before the commission releases their judgement of the hearing.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It now appears they’ve set aside 12 weeks, rather than the 10 weeks that was originally reported.

“It just shows the detail they’re going to be going into.

“With 115 charges, there will be an immense amount of testimony, cross-examination, expert witnesses – it’s a long case.

“It means they’ll also need 3-4 months for the commission to write up the judgement.

“We’re already talking about Easter, and then you need the time to appeal.

Richard Masters, Premier League CEO

“As I said before, I think we’re looking at next season before we get a final situation.

“I think it’s really important that City and the Premier League find a way forward and try and put an end to this.”
