Man City could now sign final piece of jigsaw after Kalvin Phillips confirmed – Campbell
Kevin Campbell has suggested Brighton defender Marc Cucurella could be the final piece of the jigsaw for Man City this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker believes the 23-year-old’s education at Barcelona will be attractive to Pep Guardiola.
On Monday (4 July), Man City announced the signing of Kalvin Phillips from Leeds United on a six-year deal.
The centre-midfielder is the Premier League champions’ third capture of the summer following the arrivals of striker Erling Haaland and goalkeeper Stefan Ortega.
According to inews‘ Mark Douglas (4 July), City are interested in signing Brighton’s Cucurella.
The Spanish full-back has four years remaining on his contract with the Seagulls and will not come cheap.
When asked by Football Insider if Cucurella was the final piece of the jigsaw for Pep Guardiola, Campbell said: “Left-back is definitely a spot City could strengthen in.
“Look, Cucurella seems like a player the manager likes a lot. Cucurella was at Barcelona as a kid. The manager knows him so that might just work.
“That squad is very strong. The additions of Kalvin Phillips and Erling Haaland will only make them better.
“They could do with a left-back but at the same time they managed just fine last season with Joao Cancelo there.”

Cucurella was one of the standout defenders in the Premier League during the 2021-22 campaign.
He contributed one goal and two assists in 38 appearances across all competitions.
In other news, a finance guru has claimed Man City have pulled off a ‘surprise’ £12million deal and ‘it’s a bargain’.
