Man City ‘creating history’ as 250 per cent rise revealed – pundit

Kevin Campbell has claimed Man City must win the Champions League to compete with Liverpool and Man United for the title of “the biggest club” in England.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker stressed the importance of “capturing generations” to build a global fan base.

According to i news‘ Mark Douglas (14 October), Man City’s shirt sales have rocketed since the arrival of Erling Haaland in the summer.

In the US market, retail revenues from July to September are said to have recorded a remarkable 250 per cent rise.

Pep Guardiola’s side have won four of the last five Premier League titles on offer.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on City’s meteoric rise both on and off the field, Campbell said: “I don’t think they will be the biggest in 20 years but they will have had modern longevity by then.

“They will have proved in modern times by then that they are up there with everyone else. They are creating their own history now.

“It is all about capturing the generations. If they win like the Liverpool and Man United of old, the global fan base will be formed. If they continue to win for the next 20 years they will have captured two generations of City fans. It is all about being consistent winners.

“They have got to win the Champions League as well. They have got to get their hands on it. That is the only thing that they haven’t got on the resume. That is the global one that everybody watches.”
