Man City expected to land two January deals after PSR latest – Keith Wyness
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has suggested he expects Man City to make two January signings as they have the leeway to do so under Premier League financial rules.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – warned City they will find it hard to transform their squad completely mid-season.
City are languishing down in seventh in the Premier League table having picked up just four points since 1 November.
Pep Guardiola’s side are already 14 points adrift of league leaders Liverpool, who also have a game in hand on the English champions.
They have struggled to cope after the loss of Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in the opening games of the 2024-25 campaign.
Man City January deals ‘won’t be the answer’, says Wyness
Wyness insisted City will be forced to “pay over the odds” to add any signings next month.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “They could go out and spend.
“City have a lot of leeway in PSR terms right now.
“But it’s the old problem we talk about – getting the quality in January is not easy. If you do get them, you’ve got to pay over the odds.
“The players City want, clubs won’t want to sell because they will be battling for trophies or fighting relegation.
“January is a hard window, and I don’t see City adding too much.

“A couple will come in, maximum. They’ve got to look at the injuries and get the squad back fit and firing.
“I don’t think bringing in too many new signings will be the answer.”
