‘Man City face £150,000-a-week subsidy on Jack Grealish exit amid Tottenham update’

Man City face paying a huge sum to move Jack Grealish on this summer amid a new update on Tottenham’s interest in his signature.

Grealish is seemingly set to depart the Etihad Stadium this summer after recently being left out of Pep Guardiola’s Club World Cup squad following a tough campaign.

He struggled to make an impact on the Man City team throughout a poor 2024/25 season for a number of Guardiola’s star players, with just seven Premier League starts made all term.

Football Insider reported on 11 June that Everton and Newcastle United are leading the race for Grealish’s services, and he wants to leave City soon after four years at the club following a £100million [Sky Sports] move from Aston Villa in 2021.

The potential to be a regular starter under David Moyes has since seen Football Insider reveal that Grealish would prefer to join the Toffees this summer, but Everton are not the only club planning to make a move for the England international soon.

Man City may have to fund half of Grealish’s wages to sanction his exit amid Napoli and Everton interest

Man City’s chiefs are reportedly considering loaning Grealish out for next season, with no formal offers to sign him on a permanent deal received as yet while there is a £50m price-tag [The Guardian] for his signature from the Citizens.

The 29-year-old is also a target for Serie A champions Napoli [The Sun], but his £300,000 weekly wages are proving a stumbling block in a move to Italy, with The Telegraph now reporting that Antonio Conte’s side have made it clear that they will not match those earnings, so City may have to fund “50 per cent” of his salary so a deal can happen.

At the same time, Tottenham are not expected to enter the race to sign Grealish despite mooted interest, according to the same report, with new boss Thomas Frank looking to raid former side Brentford to sign Bryan Mbeumo this summer.

Joining Napoli would be ideal Grealish to try and revive his career

Football Insider verdict

Grealish needs to leave City as soon as possible, but an interested team could still struggle to tie him down to a loan deal soon after The i recently reported that an immediate move for the 29-year-old is “unlikely,” while “half of the Premier League is interested” in a move for his services.

His time at the Etihad Stadium has been one of both ups and downs over the years, but his last season certainly included more of the latter as he failed to make any sort of impact in either the Premier League or Champions League while City suffered a surprising downfall compared to their previous campaigns.

The 29-year-old certainly still has a lot to offer, though, as he enters what should be his prime as a player, and he would surely benefit from a move abroad as he looks to move out of the limelight somewhat and experience a fresh start in a new league and culture.

Napoli are one of Italy’s biggest clubs, and are a team on the up after winning the Serie A title under Conte last term, so the chance to make the move there and play in the Champions League is surely one that would be too good to turn down if an agreement was reached between them and City regarding wages.

Grealish will have his eyes on a return to the England reckoning ahead of next year’s World Cup, too, and given Thomas Tuchel’s recent comments on him needing to join a club playing “every three days” [The Telegraph] this summer to have any hope of making his 2026 squad, he would surely jump at the chance to go to Naples and be a regular starter in a top side once again.
