Man City face Premier League ‘expulsion’ over 115 charges – Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Man City are facing “expulsion” from the Premier League if found guilty of their 115 outstanding financial charges.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed top-flight chiefs have “set the bar so high” by pushing for a 17-point deduction at Everton for “minor” offences.

Premier League chief executive Richard Masters claimed last week (26 April) that “a date has been set and the case will resolve itself at some point in the near future” .

City were charged 115 times in February 2023 for allegedly breaching financial rules over nine years.

Pep Guardiola’s side have won the Premier League title in three consecutive seasons and are favourites to beat Arsenal to the trophy this season.

Man City expulsion ‘has to be on the table’, says Wyness

Wyness claimed City will have “no grounds for appeal on co-operation” if found guilty.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I think expulsion is on the table for Man City.

“How far down the football pyramid they could go, I don’t know.

“But I think it’s a genuine possibility because the Premier League have set the bar so high.

“They tried to take 17 points from Everton, before appeals – that’s a big number for pretty minor PSR transgressions.

“If they are found guilty of 115 charges, and they’ve obstructed the process – they’ve got no grounds for appeal on co-operation.

“We’re looking at expulsion, it’s got to be on the table. We’re looking at a battle royale, that’s for sure.”
