Man City fans are devastated by club announcement

Man City fans are devastated after the club confirmed Txiki Begiristain will step down as their director of football at the end of the season.

The club released a statement confirming that the 60-year-old former Barcelona forward has decided to leave the club and will be succeded by Sporting CP’s Hugo Viana.

Begiristain joined the Premier League champions back in 2012, and played an integral role in bringing former teammate Pep Guardiola to the club in 2016.

Under his directorship, Man City have won seven Premier League titles, six League Cups, two FA Cups, and a Champions League.

The news comes nearly a month after the Premier League’s long-awaiting hearing into the clubs alleged 115 charges began.

City have been charged with breaking financial fair play rules over a nine-year period, which started in 2009 and went on until 2018.

During that period, the club, who strongly deny any wrongdoing, won the Premier League title three times.

If found guilty, the club could face a points deduction, be stripped of their titles, and even face expulsion from the Premier League.

For now, City sit in second, one point behind Liverpool at the top of the table, and fans pay tribute to the man who played an instrumental role in getting them to where they are today.
