Man City and rival fans were left in shock by midfielder Kalvin Phillip’s performance in their 3-2 pre-season defeat to AC Milan.
It’s fair to say that Phillip’s career at Manchester City hasn’t gone to plan since he secured his big money move from Leeds United.
City paid Leeds United £45 million for the midfielder in 2022, but in his debut season, he started just four games in all competitions – two in the Premier League – as he sat back and watched his teammates with the treble.
Continued failure to secure a starting spot under Pep Guardiola prompted the club to ship him out on loan to West Ham for the second half of last season.
The change of scenery wasn’t much help and after a string of poor performances, Phillips found himself on the bench once again.

The central midfielder still has three years remaining on his current Man City contract but is pushing for a move away following his omission from Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad.
Football Insider revealed (July 27) that Phillips is pushing to find a permanent move away from Man City this summer after failing to make an impression.
Despite that Phillips is currently with Man City on their pre-season tour of the USA which is set to end on August 3rd with a game against Chelsea.
Numerous Premier League clubs have been linked with a move for Phillips but it remains to be seen whether it would go down well with fans after his latest performance.
