Man City fans were furious with Phil Foden after his performance in their 2-1 League Cup defeat to Tottenham on Wednesday (October 30).
Playing as a false nine, the 24-year-old failed to have a single shot on target, create a chance, or successfully take on a Spurs player before being hooked off in the 58th minute.
Foden’s only goal involvement in domestic competition so far this season came in their last-gasp Premier League win over Wolves, providing the assist for John Stones’ controversial 95th-minute winner.
The reigning Premier League Player of the Season has slipped down the pecking order at City, with fellow England international Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku emerging as Pep Guardiola’s preferred choices on the left wing.
Still, he’s doing better in the Champions League having scored twice and provided one assist in their games against Slovan Bratislava and Sparta Prague.

Even without Foden firing on all cylinders, Man City are the early title favourites, sitting at the summit of the Premier League table as the only unbeaten team left.
There is still plenty of football to be played this season, but City fans took to X, formally known as Twitter, to express their concerns about Fodens’ form.
